Band 5+: Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in theirlocal area, rather than imported goods. What are the reasons for this? Is this a positive or anegative trend?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s society, many people opt for locally produced goods for the benefits it yields to environment, local economic, and customer’s health. While there are arguments on both sides, this trend is generaly seen as largely positive and beneficial.

One major reason of this inclination is environmental concerns related to the transportation of goods. Imported cargo usually shipped to far-flung ports using airplans, trains, or freight vessels, which contribute to increased levels of carbon emision.By purchasing locally produced goods, people help curtailing all methods of transportation, leading to a more sustainable environment.

Another reason of buying local products is economic and personal health benefits. As if to say, because people are buying local products, their money circulate within their community. As a result, this shift brings about more job opportunities, good standards of living, and overall well-being to local citizens, leading to economic sustainability. In addition, health-conscious custumers prefer to consume perishable items, such as fruits and vegetables, as fresh as possible bacause the fresher they are the more nutitions they contain.

However, some people argue that local products are limited, which means customers have fewer items to chose from. Take, for example, limited agricultural activities in cold places such as north Europe and America; in these places, the climate is not conducive to yield mungos and pinapples; therefore, customers will not have access to thos fuits.

In concusion, while this shift has some drawbacks in the short term, it fosters economic progress, mitigates environmental issues, and helps health-conscious people retain good physical health and overall well-being.
