With the desire to catch up with other countries’ achievements in terms of sports, a huge government budget is allocated to athletic amenities for elite sports persons instead of the general public. From my perspective, while this trend may offer beneficial values, it is more ideal that everyone should receive equal attention on matters of fitness and sports.
On the one hand, specialized equipment has limited uses for the common person. It is irrefutable that not everyone has enough knowledge and level of fitness to use professional sports facilities. This comes down to the fact that it could be a waste of resources to provide the public with special amenities. Furthermore, athletes are capable of standing a better chance of winning than others because of their talents, together with the help of machines, which make it easier than ever for competitive athletes to work out and compete efficiently. Consequently, the nation will take pride in them if they bring the medal for their country.
On the other hand, everyone deserves fair treatment since the government funds almost come from the taxes paid by residents. If the average people do not have access to sports facilities, it will trigger dissatisfaction and lead to opposition to paying taxes. In addition, having public fitness amenities generally improves the well-being of citizens. A typical example of that is the emergence of free outdoor activities for the elderly and sports fields for youngsters.
To sum up, I opine that investing in specialized sports facilities for top athletes rather than the public will have both advantages and disadvantages; however, governments should allocate resources equally for everyone in an effort to promote equality in society.
