The statements above show contrast view on how underage kids should be treated for their crimes. Some people believe that they should be responsible and be punished, meanwhile, some others agree that the parents are the ones to blame and be punished instead.
To begin with, children punishment due to their own crimes could help them to grow up more responsible. Because sometimes kids do not listen to their parents carefully and by giving a direct punishment might teach them to behave better in the upcoming future. For instance, I once saw a kid that cries in a toys store insisting to buy a doll even though the mother already said no because they are currently short in money. However, the kid started to wreck the doll and yell loudly in public. I believe at this point, the crime is not on the mother side but on the kid’s.
In contrast, for some other cases, the parents should be punished instead. Since the children are still underage and do not understand the laws, the punishment should be a reminder for the parents to be more responsible for their own kid and also aware of prohibited things that the children might do not understand yet. For example, the importance of kids to be seated in the baby car seat is purely the responsible of the parents. Hence, if the kids appear to not sitting in the car seat, than it is definitely the parents’ fault.
In conclusion, there are convincing arguments for both views, but I must agree with the second view, which states that the parents should be the ones to receive the punishments. I believe underage kids might not understand the concept of crime and the parents should be in charge to their irresponsibility.
