Some people argue that children at secondary level should be grouped by their abilities. While other disagree with this statement and think that students in class should have different levels of abilities. In my opinion, mixed classes have more benefits.
The main benefit of being taught in mixed-ability classes is that children can learn from each other and develop their knowledge. For example, when I was at school I was not as good at maths as other were. So, I asked some excellent classmates to help me. Studying with friends was always a pleasure for me and I could understand material much better. It not only makes kids learn more, but also strengthens the friendships between the classmates. Also, children usually try to compete with each other, so having different levels of preparation can stimulate them to study better. And better study provides better grades and knowledge.
Some people also argue that mixed-abilities classes provide more disadvantages. As I know from my friends, they think that it is much more effective to study in places where everyone is on the same level. Stronger children could get bored while weak ones are struggling to understand the class, so it provides a failure for everyone. Moreover, such classes are also more difficult for teachers to teach, because they have to give attention and different exercises for different levelled kids.
As we have seen, there are both advantages and disadvantages for classes with mixed level of abilities. But, as for me, benefits outweigh the harm provided by such classes.
