In this day and age, there is a belief that income should be wholly kept by the citizens instead of partially allocated to taxes. I personally disagree with this notion due to several benefits of taxation that I would elucidate in this subsequent essay.
On the one hand, there is a prominent advantage for the citizens and the society as a whole associated with paying tax. In this day and age, there is a growing number of global and national issues that requires meticulously planned strategies from the governments to comprehensively resolve them. While tax is generally known as the main source of money for the government to allocate on various aspects, ranging from education, healthcare services or public transportation. The increasing budget of authorities can allow for innovation and breakthrough in solving current challenges such as global warming or lack of proper management of public facilities, leading to the increased overall living standards and life satisfaction of residents.
On the other hand, without the appearance of tax, there could be numerous detrimental repercussions. Tax is also utilized for humanitarian works such as providing urgent aid when facing with natural disaster or helping improve the quality of life for lower income group. Therefore, the notion of keeping the whole earnings without sharing them for people in needed can act as a catalyst for the blooming of materialism, overshadowing the traditional value of sharing and sympathize with unpriviledged individuals. Should many people become individualistic, the society bond may be weaken over time.
In conslusion, taking into account all the advantages of taxation for both individuals and society, I suppose that citizen’s salary should be taxed at a suitable level equate to each groups with different levels of income.
