There is an ongoing debate about whether government should allocate greater amount of money on promoting health or not. Many people tend to believe that government should take care of citizens, while others think that is is fully peoples’ responsibility. In this essay, I will discuss both views and argue that although government should be involved in citizens’ life, individuals’ responsibility should not be overlooked.
The strong argument to justify my stand is that all individuals have choice to follow a healthy lifestyle or not. For instance, research has shown that it mostly depends on person’s habits, diets, priorities, level of activity, and desire to stay health. In addition, there are at least several gyms in cities, that is why people have all the facilities needed. If individuals ignore government’s all awareness in purpose, then it is their own decision about it, and no one is taking responsibility for that.
However, it would be unwise to ignore governments’ involvement in peoples’ life development. For example, government considers as the main budget source that creates special places where people can do sports. Furthermore, they might establish policies, such as higher taxes for junk food and build more sport centres in public places. Consequently, throughout that system citizens can be inspired and highly motivated to stick to healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, although it is mostly our responsibility, government still needs to provide an environment and all facilities to promote a healthy lifestyle among citizens. In my opinion, each person needs to take responsibility for their actions without fully relying on government.
