Band 8+: Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

A considerable number of individuals advocate for the acceptance of adverse circumstances, such as dissatisfaction in a job role or financial constraints, as the most appropriate course of action. Conversely, others posit that actively striving to ameliorate such situations is more favorable. While I recognize that coming to terms with and dealing with unwelcome circumstances can make them more manageable, I am more inclined to believe that persistent efforts to effect improvements should be pursued.

It is contended by some that during times of hardship, such as financial difficulties or a lack of job satisfaction, individuals should refrain from denying the reality of their situation and instead acknowledge it. The argument here is that acceptance is more pertinent than denial, as it enables individuals to proactively make adjustments to their financial situation or seek alternative employment that aligns with their interests and skills. For example, there is a growing trend of recent graduates being compelled to accept menial jobs that do not utilize their qualifications, due to economic pressure. This not only results in mental strain but can also lead to long-term issues such as anxiety, depression, and procrastination.

In my view, following acceptance of a problem, individuals should actively endeavor to improve their circumstances. Continuously seeking opportunities that are better suited to one’s abilities and interests can lead to a more permanent solution. For instance, in India, there is a burgeoning number of entrepreneurs who have departed from traditional employment to pursue ventures aligned with their passions. This not only provides them with a sense of purpose but also leads to financial success.

In conclusion, while acknowledging and accepting unfavorable circumstances may serve as a starting point, it would be remiss to stop there. Instead, individuals should strive to leverage their abilities to effect positive changes in their circumstances.
