Nowadays, an increasing number of people are using public transport. While some advocate for allocation of more funds in making the public modes of travel quicker, others, including myself opine that environmental concerns and affordability of prices should be prioritized, due to the benefits they bring for the individuals and societies as a whole.
On the one hand, those who argue that it would be better for the authorities to focus on faster means of public transport refer to the hectic lifestyle. In simple terms, modern life is characterized by shortage of time, which contributes mainly to the need of people to rely on accelerated ways of transport. Sadly, today a great number of buses and trains are unreliable due to their lack of punctuality. It can be explained by this fact that they do not strictly adhere to their timetables, which leaves people with no choices other than to wait for long portion of time in stations. In addition, taking long routs and numerous stops at various stations to pick up passengers from far-off locations can be another underlying reason which makes devoting public resources on faster means of travel essential. Without a shadow of doubt, unpleasant experience of long travels by buses or trains persuades a lot of travelers to desert public transport in favor of their private cars.
On the other hand, there are several compelling reasons which justify to put a premium on the cost of tickets and environmental effects of using public vehicles. To begin with, no one can turn a blind eye to this fact that for poverty-stricken families and those unable to afford purchasing their own cars, public transport is the main means of commute. Consequently, high ticket costs and their unaffordable prices can expose a large number of destitute people to financial difficulties, discouraging them to use public ways of transport. Furthermore, there are several environmental benefits that justify government investment in making the public vehicles more eco-friendly. By providing buses and trains which are highly energy-sufficient and use sustainable and green energy, state authorities can play a pivotal role in the reduction of exhaust fumes and carbon emissions, which consequently leads to an enhanced air quality. Although it might be argued that focusing on environmental concerns can in turn results in the higher fares of efficient means of transport, I would contend that this undesirable result can be mitigated by subsidies granted by the government, ensuring that the prices of tickets are fair and affordable for all citizens.
In conclusion, while some individuals hold that investing in quicker means of public transport could do better, other people believe in the prioritization of financial and environmental improvements of public transports. I favor the latter argument for the benefits it brings for citizens in the form of affordability of tickets and for societies by providing better air quality.
