There is an opinion that college students ought to pay their tuition fee entirely in all levels of education because their learning is only beneficial to their future without any contribution to society. From my perspective, I totally disagree with this viewpoint because students can contribute to the civilization in both direct and indirect ways.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that a vast majority of students who were sponsored by government or private scholarships have been so successful in their studies and now support considerably directly the economy and society. Specifically, in many palaces, the expenditures for advanced education, especially in second-cycle education, is extremely high, which will impede the talented people who have a poor financial status to have a chance to contribute to society. Therefore, if they have an opportunity to study graduate and postgraduate programs via supporting funds, they will be grateful and have more motivation to facilitate their nation through their money and initiatives. For example, Pham Nhat Vuong, who is now the richest person in Vietnam and was offered a fully-paid scholarship by the Vietnamese Government, has enhanced the economy and international position of Vietnam by numerous projects like EV car brand Vinfast, which is a vital contribution to society.
On the other hand, there are different people who have taken tertiary education now have a wonderful impact on the development of their country indirectly through their knowledge and research. To be more detailed, students who have a chance to study further education in top universities, like doctorate programs, can acquire various useful knowledge around the world which positively affect their study in many fields, such as artificial intelligence or machine learning. As a result, they can come back to their homeland to join the national R&D or become a professor at a local university to convey their essential knowledge. For instance, there have been plentiful doctors which were sponsored by Vietnam to study in Australia have now come back to Vietnam and become lecturers in several institutions, which is a huge contribution to the educational process of Vietnam.
In short, although there is a standpoint that students must pay the tuition fee completely due to the only support for their career, I think it will be unfair because there are many poor students and they will have countless ways to encourage the society after their education.
