Opinions are divided on whether television has an impact on children’s behavior, or whether the time they spend watching TV programs influences offspring’s behavior the most. While I may acknowledge the logic behind the former view, I am still strongly in favor of the latter.
Those who believe that the content of television programs affects children’s behavior may point to violent or inappropriate content can drive children to exhibit aggressive behaviors and develop fears or anxieties but I argue that educational and positive content promote children’s learning and development. It is undeniable that the impact of the unsuitable content for children may affect their behaviors because minor’s brain is flexible, so they can easily be absorbed and mimic bad images from the programs. However, there are some situation that youngters can learn languages through TV programs, thereby having good linguistic ability, which make me think that this is not the best option.
In my perspective, spending too much time watching television may impact minor’s behavior for reasons related to peer interaction and physical health. Concerning the former, excessive television viewing can limit children’s social interaction with their peers, which cannot allow them to develop their communication skills. Such interactions may be absent when children are spending too much time watching programs. As a result, they may be slow to develop social skills, that are considered essential for their lives. Regarding the second idea, time spent watching television is often associated with a sedentary lifestyle, impacting children’s physical health. When they become over-reliant on entertainment, they might neglect engagement in outdoor activities, which is highly detrimental to their physical health.
In conclusion, some people may think that the content of watching programs can influence youngster’s behavior. However, I still believe that the amount of time spent watching television affects children’s behavior.
