In the modern era, people have too many alternatives about everyday life. They have unlimited opportunities in business, school or just what are they going to eat. The preferences have changed due to technological advances. I completely agree with this point of view because of the endless commercials and sponsored posts on social media.
People nowadays are surrounded by commercials when watching television or shopping online. Advertisements are quite enough to tell people how many options they have. There are endless options even for just one chocolate and people get lost in these options. For instance, even food ordering applications have started to advertise by charging more money from the restaurants featured in the app, so that consumers will choose those restaurants. It is obvious that individuals have many selections in such a competitive environment.
In addition, social media is making people suffer from information overload. In other words, individuals may feel overwhelmed by the number of search results they receive and end up getting nothing. For example, when users scroll through the explore page on Instagram, they come across a lot of sponsored posts. Even if they spend only two seconds on these posts, the algorithm starts showing so many recommendations based on the subject of the post. However, they may get confused by the different options by those advertisers in the end.
In conclusion, the preferences of consumers have changed due to technological developments. Furthermore, I believe that people nowadays are faced with an excess of choices because of the number of suggestions they get from advertisements and sponsored posts on social media.
