Some people owe money because they purchase unnecessary items that they cannot afford. The primary reasons behind this are relentless advertising in the media and the easy accessibility of credit. I think governments should make strict rules to stop banks from lending money irresponsibly and to control advertising in the media.
Advertising in the media has caused many people to go into debt. Clever marketing can lead people to believe they need something when in reality they do not, driving them to spend unnecessarily. Another reason that people are buying things they cannot afford is the fact that credit is easily available. Nowadays financial institutions make it widely known that anyone can get a credit card or a loan.
To resolve these problems, governments could make rules to control too much advertising and bad lending. This means they could limit how much advertising is shown on TV and require people to show they have enough money before they get a loan or credit card. For instance, in Germany, individuals can’t borrow more than 10% of what they earn in a year. If they do, the bank gets in big trouble.
In summary, a lot of lending and aggressive marketing make many people end up in debt. But if the government makes good rules and watches over ads and loans, it can help reduce these problems.
