Band 9: Some people prefer to spend their lives doing the same things and avoiding change. Others, however, think that change is always a good thing. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Although changes are deemed inevitable in the contemporary context, many prefer to remain within their comfort zones. This essay will elaborate on both perspectives at length before explaining my preference for the former view, which emphasizes the importance of embracing changes.

On the one hand, it stands to reason that resisting change potentially facilitates stability and security. The first justification lies in the fact that a sense of consistency and predictability is inextricably linked to remaining in a familiar environment where uncertainties and vicissitudes can be minimized. Additionally, continuously performing similar tasks is conducive to a higher level of expertise and mastery. This appears to be because such repetition constitutes a consistent level of quality in performance, thereby serving as a prerequisite for better efficiency and productivity. However, not only does rejecting modifications restrict creativity but it also leads to stagnation, which inevitably limits one’s perspective as well as their opportunities.

Apart from the aforementioned grounds, it is understandable that change is inevitable and beneficial. Firstly, changes in a person’s status quo would enable them to have a multi-faceted outlook on life. This stems from the fact that by embracing changes in their environment, one is capable of experiencing various aspects of life, thereby incentivizing them to view everything from a diverse perspective. Another rationale is that changes offer an individual a competitive advantage over others. In the multi-faceted job market, being flexible and adaptable to changes potentially renders a person more relevant and appealing to employers.

In conclusion, while rejecting change carries a multitude of benefits ranging from stability to greater expertise in a specific field, it is significantly overshadowed by the upsides suggested by the proponents of embracing change. From my perspective, I wholeheartedly concur with the latter view, implying that individuals should be adaptable and receptive to innovations.
