There’s an on-going quarrel between different parties whether school subjects such as History are more vital than Scientific and Technological
ones. Although some believe that teaching Science and Technology to students is paving the future, I, however, side with those who
feel like learning about the past is the right way to move forward.
It is though that to survive in today’s digitalized world, pupils need to take Scientific topics over historical ones. Advocates of the vitality
of those subjects in schools believe that young minds need to get familiar with the basis of technology at a young age as, from what is
seen today, it appears that Technology is the future. It is thought that, for example, instead of studying the history of ancient medicine
and listen to their stories and origins, it would be better to invent something that would be looked back on in the future as a saviour of
peole. If minds are trained to innovate and discover, it would be much worthwhile than to reminice the past.
On the other hand, I side with those who truly believe that history is the key to the future. There is no doubt that our ancestors have come
a long way with the very little they had back in the day. For example, the ancient Egyptians made innovative tools that allowed them
to lift and stack gigantic stone block that made up the pyramids we see today, in addition to exceling in medical treatements.
This simple example teaches young students the importance of improvising with what you have and how to make use of all the availabe
preliminary resources such as simple local herbs and how to use them in the making of a benifitial modern day medicine. Moreover, what
getting familiar with the History does is refresh the cognitive mind and allows it to get inspiration that could be useful for future innovations.
A good illustration of this is Architecture, it is mandatory for young architects to learn everything about ancient architecture as some of the
features of some styles could be re-used in a completely new light.
To sum up, even though it’s thought that Science and Technology subjects are more important than historical ones, getting familiar
with the history is the right step to shape the future. Therefore, on balance, I believe History subjects are more crucial to be taught
than those of Science.
