Public opinion is polarized on the question of whether History fits the role of the most salient subject or subjects such as Science and Technology are more crucial in modern world. From my perspective, I concur with the latter viewpoint for several reasons.
Some might argue that history knowledge can help human avoid mistakes and prevent troubles. From information of war and battle from the past, we can avoid using inefficient strategy that could have led to defeat. Aside from warfare, history knowledge can also help develop country. Countless of rulers, kings, presidents gave a kind of rules and policies in the past, some rules prove themselves to be efficient while some are counterproductive. By utilizing history information, politicians can avoid publish policy that might harm their country. However, I believe this line of reasoning is not sound as with the passage of time, the world become more complex and make practicality of these knowledge very questionable. For example, nowadays, soldiers using guns and artillery weapons to fight so war strategy involved melee weapons such as spears and swords from the past is completely useless. We also cannot guarantee that failed policies from the pass will continue to fail if it is applied since technology development has already transform the world significantly, making some used to be infeasible, become feasible.
On the other hand, subject such as Science and Technology can provide children with a lot of promising career. Some of the highest paying jobs nowadays such as scientist or programmers require expertise in these subjects. Therefore, learning these subjects can help students have a wide range of choice when it comes to career. I find little to disagree with this as society is developing faster than ever before, simultaneously creates more demand for this type of jobs. For example, the breakthrough we achieved in space travel create more demand for rocket scientists and aerodynamic experts in order to make space tourism possible. Another one is the developments of the artificial intelligent makes the roles of software engineers and programmers become more crucial.
In conclusion, it is my conviction that subjects such as Science and Technology fit the title the most important subjects since history knowledge is becoming more impractical while having expertise in Science or Technology field can help students having a promising job.
