Some claim that advertisements trick us into making purchases, while others believe that we have grown numb to them. Advertisements, in my opinion, are still successful. We are currently residing in the consumerism era. Even items we don’t really need are being purchased by us. This wouldn’t occur if we stopped paying attention to advertisements.
Ad blindness is undoubtedly caused by excessive exposure to advertisements. Individuals cease focusing on them. Because of this, conventional advertising strategies are no longer very successful. In the past, radio, newspapers, television, and billboards served as the primary advertising mediums. They have become less appealing over time. In fact, people just switch channels when TV advertisements start. The same holds true for radio or newspaper advertisements. Due to their awareness of this development, advertisers have also cut back on their spending on these platforms.
However, the advertising industry is still thriving. Businesses continue to sell more goods now than they did a decade or two ago. The story has been altered by them. Businesses now prioritize novelty. They unveil new features and build anticipation for them. They enlist powerful individuals to help them spread the word. This is a well-known tactic used by Apple. They release a new iteration of their flagship iPhone every year that mainly consists of cosmetic and minor enhancements. They then create hype by utilizing every platform available. People start forming lines in front of Apple stores days before the launch because this tactic works so well.
In summary, advertising has evolved to keep up with the times. Although traditional forms of advertising are no longer very effective, businesses are succeeding in drawing attention to themselves by experimenting with ever-newer approaches. The best evidence of this is the rise in consumerism.
