In modern times there’s a growing discussion about the importance of social and work experience dependent on obtaining a diploma of a higher educational institution. There is also an opinion that practical professional skills and ability to communicate well play a greater role in getting the desired job.
In my point of view, college helps a person grow up from childhood and adolescence to adulthood.
On the one hand there are two key reasons why hard skills and academic knowledge are vital for various professions. Firstly, a masters or bachelors degree gives a chance to work in the industry that a person has been dreaming of since kindergarten and earns good money for his work. Secondly, at the university a man will be received basic knowledge of a certain profession that can only be obtained there. For instance, in order to work as a doctor in Ukraine and abroad, it is necessary to have a masters degree and a certificate of successfully passing an independent state exam Step 1,2 and 3.
On the other hand, practical knowledge and communication is life or death decision. In such areas as country politics and journalism it plays the main role. For example an ability to play with words perfectly when Winston Churchill had been working as war correspondent had made him a great politician. Another argument is that soft skills are universal things that are established in childhood and that can be developed throughout life.
In conclusion, both sides of the argument show that to get the best result you need to combine social skills with academic ones. I think one can not live without the other.
