Some individuals say that although internet can be seen as a way of opening up new communication possibilities all over the world, there are negative effects on the social interaction among the people in the community. In my opinion, I mostly agree with this statement. This essay provides the reasons and justifications for my opinion.
Nowadays, the usage of internet affects the society negatively in many ways. The first thing is the loosen up of contact with the most important people in our day-to-day life. Before the society opening up to the internet, people have a good interaction and bond between each other. As an example, there are two kids of my relative who have addicted to the internet. They barely talk with their parents and relatives and exchange their experiences. They misbehave at many occasions and cause big troubles because they have lack of guidance from the elders. Another major issue of internet is cyber bullying. Some people get others’ information and picture in the social media and spread them through the internet. Most of those information harm victims’ personality which can goes up to mental breakdown. The most prominent example can be seen in South Korea. South Korea has become the top of the countries which have the highest suicidal rate. Most of these suicidal cases are due to the cyber bullying. Not only normal individuals in the society but also the celebrities who have high social statues in South Korea has committed due to the depression arisen from cyber bullying.
However, there are some advantages of internet. Although it affects negatively on community and relationships in some ways, internet is the most easiest and common way of improving interactions and build communication throughout the emergency periods. During the covid pandemic period, people were able to keep their contact with relatives and build up new relationships with new friend throughout the internet. Furthermore, those relationships were brought into the real world and able to continue throughout their lives.
In conclusion, there are many negative impacts of using internet on the society such as loosen of interaction with real world and cyber bullying. But at some times like huge pandemics, it helps to keep the long-distance relationships between people. So, I agree with the given statement.
