Some people mention that working in a large company is better than a small one. I partially agree with this view, but it may also have benefits to work in a small company.
On the one hand, being hired by a large company always means stability. Large companies, especially those have thousands of employees, always can better handle the risks during economy crisis compared to individual companies. For example, they generally have larger cash flow, so they are likely to pay for salaries even if the company suffers from failure investment. Also, a large company offers more opptunities to people, which could motivate people to achieve higher goals. Specifically, people can relocate to different positions and try different working contents, increasing their ability and broaden their views. Furthermore, a larg company have clear standards and rules. Therefore, employees do not need to worry about being fired without reasons and forced to work overtime.
On the other hand, there are also some benefits woking in a small company. It is more possible to get promotion in small companies that larger ones. Many people can be promoted within a couple of years working in a small company, while it is still very unlikely to get promotion in big company for decades. The main reason for this is that people faces lower competition pressure so that it is even easier to make friends working in a small company. In addition, working in and supporting a small company contribute more to the local econmy. Small companies mostly are started by local people so that they pay more taxes and intend to hire people of there, which boosts the economy and development.
To conclude, although I agree that working in a big company is good for one’s career, I believe that small companies also have attractions.
