It is widely contended that the primary environmental concern of our era is the extinction of specific species of plants and animals, while others argue that there are more pressing environmental issues. In my opinion, there are indeed more significant problems in the ecosystem than the loss of particular species, and these will be discussed in this essay.
The dwindling populations of flora and fauna in our world today cannot be overstated. Firstly, the extinction of these species has led to significant challenges for our society. This phenomenon has resulted in food scarcity and hunger, leading to an increase in the cost of limited resources. For example, environments affected by practices such as bush burning and deforestation lead to the depletion of vital crops and animal populations, ultimately resulting in famine and adverse consequences for society.
However, there are major environmental challenges that the ecosystem faces apart from the disappearance of animals and plants. Firstly, the emission of greenhouse gases contributes to air pollution, thereby affecting the respiratory systems of individuals and resulting in fatalities. For instance, a study conducted by Oxford University demonstrated that greenhouse gas emissions pose a considerable threat, particularly in societies where almost every individual owns a vehicle. Furthermore, the depletion of the ozone layer leads to extreme high temperatures, rendering the environment inhospitable for inhabitants. This spike in temperature may also cause malignancies in humans, and it would inevitably lead to the perishing of animals and crops.
In conclusion, while the destruction of vegetation and animal species is indeed a pressing concern, I firmly believe that there are more pressing issues in our ecosystem that warrant consideration, such as greenhouse gas emissions and ozone layer depletion, which have far-reaching repercussions for both humans and animals.
