Societies believe that the particular reason for learning a foreign language is whether for travel or work abroad purposes. But apparently, others admit that there are several reasons why someone should study world language. This essay will discuss both points of view and present my perspective.
On one hand, it is true that the purpose for studying alternate languages is when someone has a job outside the country or is going abroad. This is mostly because they have to mingle with people living in that nation. Furthermore, mastering certain languages when they are abroad would be easier for them because they can adapt better. For example, many tourists in Japan who are mastering the language can easily read the Japanese sign without asking local’s so it would shorten the travel time without confusion.
Many others say that there could be another reason for individuals studying different languages. One of the reasons is encouragement or passion. There are some people who like a new thing everyday. In this case languages are the key for them to study in. To illustrate, there is a person from Indonesia that found similarities between Dutch and Indonesian, so he seeks for the similarities because he has a passion for it.
In conclusion, while travel or work abroad is the main reason people learn languages, in my opinion there still might be other possible reasons. However, as long as the reason is beneficial, we should support someone who wants to learn languages. Moreover, there is research that learning another language can enhance listening skills and memory.
