If they apply for international companies to work for them, large companies require them to have enough knowledge of a particular international language. Many employees, for instance, are more likely to learn the English language to go to the USA and work for international companies in this country, allowing them to earn more money than they used to do in their own country. When it comes to travel, indeed, some people typically learn a foreign language to travel for entertainment purposes. For example, it likely to see that many individuals who enjoy travel are polyglots.

However, I would argue that there are more important factors why many people learn foreign languages. Initially, by learning a particular foreign language, people can broaden their horizons. That is to say that people learn and find out about many cultures from books and articles during the learning journey, allowing them to improve their cosmopolitan knowledge. For instance, many polyglots have many books related to learning some languages, because they have enough knowledge and outlook to do this. Moreover, it is true that if people start to learn a second language, they can improve their cognitive skills. As they learn a language, they should practice listening, reading, writing, and speaking in this language. In doing so they improve their memory and critical thinking naturally during the process. One more important reason is that some people want to communicate with people from different nations. Therefore they master different languages due to their interest.
