Some individuals believe that seft-studying is the best way which adults can use to acquire practical skills. However, others think that these skills should be taught by teachers in classrooms. In this essay, I will discuss these statements and give some my views.
Those who support that adults should study practical skills by themselves making a valid point. Self-studying allows adults to improve their memory capacity. This is because, in the learning process, they have to read and understand instructions by themself. Acrossing the scientific research conducted by Fergus Craik and Lockhart in 1972 reported that people experience an information analysis process, their brain can memorize that knowledge better. Moreover, I believe that adults often own the better ability of seft- studying than children. They take the initiative to seek out what they need and they understand themselves the best. Thus they can find out some suitable learning approaches for them. However, self-studying can bring about some limitations. One of them is time-consuming, they have to spend hours on understanding, using and applying practical skills or it takes them hours to seek out and deal with their mistakes. Besides, adults often do not have much time, they have many tasks, jobs which need to be finished. Therefore, they can feel overwhelmed and disappointed leading to give up.
Unlike self-studying, adults can aquire practical skills from teachers in classroom, which help them save time. Adults are guided by professionals, they can access new knowledge which it takes them hours to find. Besides, their mistakes can be fixed imidiately by teachers. Furthermore, adults are often independent on finance so they can choose suitable courses. This helps them avoid wasting of money. However, not everyone finds the right class and teachers from the start. They can shift to a variety of classrooms in order to seek out the suitable class. Although they can save time, they have to face to some difficults related to balancing time between their courses and jobs.
In conclusion, in my opinion, the best way to learn practical skills is that adults should combine self-studying and learning with teachers. This approach will help them gain better results. However, I want to emphasize that regardless of the learning method, human consciousness remains the deciding factor.
