There is a growing public opinion that potential employees should prioritize wages while opting workplace, whereas others claim good working atmosphere is more essential factor when it comes to choosing a job. The purpose of this essay is to analyze both points of view and then I will explain why I agree with the former view.
On the one hand, there are people who believe that the amount of salary is the main reason to prefer one company over another. The main reason for believing this is the fact that employees with lucrative jobs are more motivated to work since they receive a substantial salary, which will provide them with financial support to meet their needs. As well as this, when employees are well paid, they feel valued, which in turn, makes them more productive and passionate about their work. In addition to this, since economic burden is one of the main cause of stress, profitable jobs will reduce one’s stress level by boosting purchasing power and make one more confident to face struggles of daily life. In other words, a high salary frees individuals from financial burdens like bills,rent and debt. To illustrate, recent stories in the media highlighted that high-earning people tend to be more relaxed in their daily lives as they are capable of dealing with economic problems.
On the other hand, it is also possible to make the opposing case. It is often argued that a friendly environment in the workplace is the most influential factor affecting a person’s job preferences. People often have this opinion because a healthy work environment makes employees enjoy their work by increasing their morale, which improves teamwork and quality of work. To be more precise, non-toxic workplace protects workers from potential conflicts as well as allows them to be positive and fully focus on their work instead of dealing with rivalry. For instance, researches support the view that individuals are more likely to feel happy and safe in workplaces where there is no hostile attitude resulting from conflicts. Additionally, a friendly atmosphere in work leads to supportive relationships among colleagues which allow them to build long-lasting friendships.
In conclusion, although healthy working environment increases satisfaction of workers by reducing conflicts among colleagues, I believe that high salary is more important factor in job selection as it provides people with financial support to address serious problems as well as motivates employees.
