Band 6+: Some people think that certain old buildings are more worth preserving than the other ones. Which types of old buildings should be preserved? Do the advantages of preserving these buildings outweigh the disadvantages?

It is suggested that conservation of ancient constructions holds more value than the other ones. In my opinion, there are several kinds of old buildings that should be preserved and the benefits of preserving old architecture outweigh drawbacks.

Historical buildings are a kind of construction that should be concentrated on. These structures are linked to the historical periods of a nation. For example, the Independence Palace in Viet Nam, which connected to the victories of the Vietnamese against invaders in the last century. In addition, the building with unique architectural features should be preserved. These could include the architectures of some temples, churches and mansions such as the Babylon in Iraq, Rome Colosseum in Italy and Bao Dai House in Hue, Viet Nam.

On the one hand, preserving these kinds of buildings can bring some disadvantages such as the high finance to restore. The materials in their constructions can be rare, so the government has to spend a lot of effort to find these and divert a huge amount of budget. For example, there has been about more than 5 years to restore Duc Ba Church in Ho Chi Minh city. This is because the government has to find the rare bricks in France. On the other hand, I believe that there are more merits offered by preserving old buildings. First and foremost, the historical buildings of a nation can help the citizens remember and have a sense of pride about the history of their country. Furthermore, the design of unique architectural buildings can reflect the phenomenon of artist mindset in this era and the following generations can be likely to take interest and learn from these constructions. Moreover, if the government opens these buildings for visiting, they can boost the local economy by attracting tourists.

In conclusion, despite the burden in finance and time-consuming to preserve these old buildings, I advocate that the benefits far more outweigh the disadvantages. Therefore, the governments should effort to boost conservation activities for these kinds of old buildings
