Band 9: Some people think that in order to prevent illness and disease, governments should make efforts in reducing environmental pollutions and housing problems. To what extent do you agree to disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is believed that there is a prevalent argument advocating for governmental intervention in addressing residential and ecological challenges as a preventive measure against certain diseases. Personally, I strongly concur with this standpoint for several compelling reasons.

Firstly, enhancing housing standards serves to mitigate direct exposure to various pathogens, as private dwellings act as a barrier against contaminated air, thereby reducing the likelihood of infection. For instance, research indicates that influenza transmission is more rampant within communal living setups compared to single-household communities, where inhabitants have limited physical interaction. Moreover, residences equipped with efficient heating and cooling systems offer superior defense against ailments associated with extreme temperature fluctuations, thus curtailing prolonged exposure to adverse weather conditions.

Additionally, prioritizing eco-friendly initiatives plays a pivotal role in enhancing public health by improving the quality of air and water resources, consequently alleviating the incidence of respiratory disorders and waterborne illnesses. For instance, in Vietnam, where urban centers such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City deal with significant pollution issues, implementing measures to curb air and water contamination could substantially reduce respiratory ailments and diseases stemming from tainted water sources. Furthermore, adopting waste recycling practices aids in restricting the proliferation of disease-carrying pests such as rats, thereby fostering cleaner and more hygienic living environments.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that investing in equitable housing and environmental conservation represents a promising approach. Not only does this strategy afford individuals enhanced protection, but it also contributes to the broader improvement of environmental health, mitigating the prevalence of diseases within communities.
