One of the most contemporary issues that receives concerns from various parts of the world is an alarming rate of environmental devastation. Some people hold the view that it is beneficial for environment issues to be tackled by increasing fuel prices for cars and other vehicles. From my perspectives, I largely disagree with this idea because different drawbacks it brings to society and should be taken into consideration before a final decision is made.
On the one hand, the merits of increasing fuel consumption prices should not be overlooked. To begin with, individuals might have a tendency to switch to travel by public transports including buses or metro systems which are environmentally friendly travel methods since driving seems to be more expensive because of the increasing of fuel prices. In addition, imposing fuel consumption taxes would not only enhance people’s environmental knowledge but also generate government revenue which may be invested to construct different environment protection infrastructures.
On the other hands, it is an infeasible idea which should be discouraged. Firstly, a sudden rise in fuels may put a heavy burden on daily expenses, especially among low-income groups, leading to universal dissatisfaction and social instability. Secondly, it is the fact that pollution stems not only from the emission of means of transports but also a wide range of factory manufactures and people daily activities. Therefore, increasing fuel price approach solely address a small part of problems while its deeply root causes leaving unresolved. Thirdly, although increasing environmental fees in fuel consumption might put a curb on overconsuming fossil fuel resources, it might lead to other potential problems. Taking building charging stations as an example, people switching to use E-automobiles, bikes lead to the increasing demands of charging vehicles, which may cost a significant amount of government budgets to establish charging stations and provoke additional environmental issues related to batteries’ production and disposal.
In conclusion, despite the upsides, the idea of increasing fuel prices should be excluded on accounts of different downsides it brings to individuals and whole the society. However, it is advisable for authorities to launch reasonable strategy that raise the public environmental awareness and avoid multiple pollution’s detrimental effects.
