It is argued by some individuals that increasing driving oil prices higher could be the most effective approach in order to resolve global environmental issues. From my perspective, I disagree with this opinion because I believe that other measures, such as implementing stricter regulations, are equally essential.
On the one hand, increasing the cost of fuel could be seen as a good way to tackle environmental challenges around the world. It is true that when fuel prices significantly increase, this encourages citizens, especially low-income households, to reduce their fuel consumption. Instead, they can opt for fuel-efficient modes of transportation, namely buses and electric trains which are generally more affordable. This would ultimately serve a dual purpose, not merely reducing emissions released into the environment but also incentivizing people to adopt a greener lifestyle by choosing more eco-friendly means of transport. Otherwise, if they spend too much on charging fuel prices, they might have insufficient funds to cover their basic needs, such as food, housing, and bills, which can eventually lead to a decline in their standard of living.
On the other hand, despite these aforementioned arguments, I am of the opinion that reinforcing the current environmental laws is just as important as increasing the cost of fuel. In fact, the main aim of some companies and industries including factories and plants is to maximize their profits while ignoring their negative impacts on the environment. Therefore, without strict regulations, these would easily find more ways to bypass the laws, potentially causing more damage to people’s nearby areas. In contrast, a well-structured and strict set of laws would bring many positive effects, such as deterring plants and factories from discharging pollutants into the environment, such as rivers or forests. This allows us to create a more environmentally friendly world.
In conclusion, while raising oil costs can be the best solution to address environmental problems, I do not assent that elevating oil prices outweighs other approaches during efforts to solve environmental challenges.
