A number of people prefer separate schools for boys and girls, while others think that mixed schools are better to educate students. There are arguments for both of the views, but I think that mixed schools are generally somewhat better than single sex schools.
In separate schools children study in a comfortable environment, and feel better. This is due to the fact that no one compares the genders, because when teachers or parents compare boys and girls, stress is created. This stress makes students less comfortable and less willing to study. In single sex schools, they can focus only on studying without any distractions. Especially this helps teenagers during their hormonal development, because they can study without embarrassment for changes in their body. The other benefit of this kind of schools is that the students do not face gender discrimination in their class.
Mixed schools help students achieve high social skills that they can use in their lives. Without social skills, it will be very difficult for students to communicate, which is a crucial skill in today’s fast paced world. In coeducational schools girls and boys can develop a spirit of competitiveness, which promotes quick improvements among students, despite the gender discrimination. This is beneficial for both the school and the workforce. For example, in the UK students reportedly learn 20% faster in mixed schools because students of both genders compete to become the best.
In my point of view, coeducational schools are better for education, because the students of both genders can cooperate with each other, which is important not only for their social life, but also their academic pursuits, as the higher level of competition in mixed schools makes students work harder and achieve higher goals.
