It is stated that accepting a bad situation like an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money is the best thing to do, while others argue they should try to improve their conditions instead. In this essay, I will discuss both views and state the reason why I believe that it is better to work on fixing the situation.
On one hand, an individual may accept their situation because they have no other option and they choose to accept the fact that it is hard to change it. People may think of limitations because of their health, age, or lack of skill to change. For example, children born in low income families may be taught to beg for money on the street instead of going to school. These children are convinced that they should beg in order to be able to survive and that they can always do it this way in the long term.
On the other hand, people may have a better life when they feel they can make improvements. This could be done by improving themselves like learning new skills. When people have skill, they have more opportunities to get better jobs. For instance, someone who is dissatisfied with their job as a waiter may try to acquire new skills like cooking to get promoted to a chef. This way, they can get a higher salary and better job satisfaction, which overall improves their quality of life. In addition, when they can overcome these challenges, they can build more confidence, motivation, and independence. When they have experienced improvement, they realise that it is possible to make positive changes and go beyond their comfort zone if they need to.
To conclude, accepting current reality is the most realistic response for people during hard times because they have limitations, but in my opinion, situations can only be changed when people want to upgrade themselves. This is because it encourages real action and effort, it creates opportunities to improve their life.
