Today many scientists and experts are trying to find a way to decrease gas contamination of the atmosphere and one of the popular inventions is the electric vehicle. Nevertheless, I believe allowing only electric cars by 2040 is not an achievable goal as these cars have social and environmental issues associated with their production.
To begin with, it is clear that buying and using an electric car is quite expensive. Nowadays there are a lot of chinese companies, which are trying to manufacture cheap analogues of Tesla’s electric vehicles. Even though, these cars require charging electricity and that demands a lot of expenses. We must not forget that there are still many people in the world who do not have access to electricity even for their necessities. Moreover, not every country in the world has the funds and ability to build electro-stations, which means, it would be very hard to force people to refuse ordinary cars.
In addition, electric cars supporters always speak loudly about how electrical transport could help to reduce air pollution. However, during production of electric batteries for these cars,factories exude even more harmful gases than gasoline vehicles. So, it still does not solve environmental issues. Moreover, there are plenty of investigations about child labour and modern slavery which are occuring in industrial spaces. It is obvious, that the transition of all transports to electrical ones, might cause negative ecological and social risks.
To conclude, despite trying to be eco-friendly, electric cars have difficulties in economic,environmental and human-rights problems. In my opinion, until we have tackled these issues, the idea of allowing only electrical transport on the roads by 2040, does not seem to be working.
