Band 7+: Some people think that parents should teach their children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the best place to learn this. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some people believe that children should be taught by their parents about how to function as useful members of society, while others believe that sending children to educational institutions is the best way for them to study this. Although the latter opinion can be beneficial in some cases, I believe that family upbringing plays a more important role in educating children to be good parts of the community.

Schools can be considered suitable places for children to learn to be good citizens. With standardized educational methods, schools can foster children’s cognitive development so that they are able to contribute to society in the future. For example, Trung Vuong school and Vinschool are well known for having nurtured successful alumni such as Professor Ngo Bao, Professor Nguyen Hung who have devoted their talents to the development of the country. However, these people only represent a small fraction of the total number of students attending schools, and thus sending children to schools cannot be the best method of educating them to be good members of society.

I believe that parents play a more important role in teaching them how to be good citizens. In Vietnam, the average class size is 20 students, which makes it difficult for educators to provide proper schooling for each student. One to one lessons at home, on the other hand, allow children to progress faster. Furthermore, parents form stronger bonds with their offspring and thus, it is easier for them to shape children’s personalities at an early age. For example, by telling stories such as Robin Hood, Cinderella before bedtime, parents can instil a sense of compassion and integrity into them. These children are likely to become good members of society when they grow up.

In conclusion, although sending children to schools can be seen as a way of teaching them how to be good citizens, I believe that domestic upbringing has a bigger impact on determining who they are in the future.

What are the problems associated with the increasing amount of waste? What solutions can you suggest to deal with these problems?

In contemporary society, the number of industrial waste is surging in a rapid race, which stems from air pollution in public areas. I would argue that this development may have a detrimental effect on people’s health. To deal with this issue the government should impose stricter regulations to industrial companies by introducing higher levels of […]

Many countries are seeing a rise in online shopping instead of visiting physical stores. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

It goes without saying that shopping is imperative for meeting our daily needs. However, it has been observed that e-shopping is gaining more popularity compared to conventional stores. I would like to outline some of the significant reasons behind its fame, and I view this particular trend positively. Firstly, people prefer to purchase goods virtually […]

Many people believe that zoos have no purpose in today's world and should be closed. What problems do zoos bring? What are the alternatives to zoos if they are closed?

In the present time, zoos have become the first home for different species of animals. It is often said that governments should prioritize environmental protection over economic growth. Do you agree or disagree?

In recent years the environmental concern became a major concern for the entire globe. Some individuals believe that protecting the environment should be a first concern. In contrast, others debate that we should prioritize economic development over environmental preservation. It is the responsibility of individuals to save and provide for their own retirement. Governments have no obligation to provide this benefit. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.

In this modern era, financial security after retirement has become the subject of considerable debate. Some people argue that individuals should be entirely responsible for accumulating sufficient savings for old age and that governments have no duty to provide pension benefits. I partially disagree with this view because personal retirement planning promotes financial independence, whereas […]

"Many people believe that individuals can do very little to address climate change and that it is governments and large corporations that must take action. To what extent do you agree or disagree?"

Large corporations, particularly those operating in energy, aviation, and extractive industries, are among the leading drivers of global carbon emissions. These entities frequently release harmful pollutants into the environment, often lobbying for lenient regulatory frameworks that prioritise profit over ecological preservation. Governments that fail to impose stringent environmental legislation on such industries are equally culpable, […]
