There is an increasing concern that using technology exerts suffers from detrimental negative effects ion face-to-face interactions. In my opinion, I partly agree with this statement for reasons provided below.
There are several reasons why technology exerts negative effects on face-to-face interaction. Firstly, face-to-face interaction may lead to the relationship weakening. Nowadays, young individuals tend to spend most of their time using social media, communicating online, or even working and studying online. A clear example of this can be found in the workplace, where more and more employees use email or apps such as Zoom or GG Meeting to exchange information and attend meetings instead of meeting in person even when they work in the same office. As a result, if individuals depend too much on technology, it may reduce work efficiency in some cases and make them less connected to the others.
Admittedly, technology is still convenient and necessary for social interaction. The main reason is that it allows individuals to keep in touch with others over a long distance. Smartphones and social media can help individuals make video calls, send messages, and share daily experiences with family and friends even when they live far apart. For instance, students who learn abroad can make video calls with their parents and friends and regularly share their daily life by sending images, videos, or even discussing personal problems and asking for advice without meeting in person. Therefore, technology helps people maintain meaningful social connections and overcome reduce negative effects of distance barriers bon relationships.
