It is believed that attending university is an excellent way to succeed in life, but others consider that it is inappropriate for today. While I can see there are some justifications behind the second point of view, I agree with the first point of view.
There are many reasons why people consider university education to be no longer suitable for today. Today, with the rise of online learning platforms such as Udemy and Coursera, people can access a wide range of courses. Unlike in the past, joining universities is often seen as the only path to gaining knowledge, these platforms allow many people to access a variety of learning opportunities, increasing their knowledge. Moreover, while learning via other platforms, they are likely to choose courses that align with their interests and career goals. This allows individuals to learn courses relevant to their personality, boosting their learning efficiency.
However, I would argue that attending university is still a path to success for several reasons. Firstly, students can obtain a certificate proving they have completed their major. This certificate is often the priority of many companies to prove their expertise in a particular field so they can increase their job opportunities. Secondly, studying at university helps build a strong foundational knowledge, increasing students’ understanding of their major. Today, the job market always requires candidates not only to possess technical skills but also to have a broad understanding of their field. Therefore, attending university creates opportunities for students to have a better job in the future.
In conclusion, many people assume that university is not appropriate for now because of the appearance of other platforms that help many people study instead of going to university. However, I agree that people should participate in university to build the foundation of their major and also have the certificate after graduating, which many companies require.
