I believe that giving long periods in prison would be the best way to reduce this problem.
On the one hand, there are some alternative ways to reduce the rate of crimes as a form of revenge. In other words, when the police strongly punish criminals, they will think more before committing fault. For example, fines are used as a punishment that poses a threat to individuals. Although this view seems reasonable, I still think that the other view holds greater benefits.
On the other hand, some criminals are considered as a threat to security and safety in the society. To illustrate, if the crime is more serious, the best measure is to give them a long period in prison. For instance, murder and rob, these kinds of crimes must be punished by imposing long periods in prison. What can be said is that giving long duration in prison would spread a secure and safety in societies.
