For the past centuries, it is of licit policy that retired people after their long-time work will receive a financial support from the governments, which is called “pension”. Fast forward to this day and age, when there has been rising a current of animosity on this matter. Apart from the common conviction throughout history, some people hold the belief that retired people should take care on their own and live without financial supports to the end of their life. In this essay, I would strike a balance between the two sentiments and give the best answer for this dilemma.
In terms of policy, people after retiring, especially those working for govermental entities, will receive pensions portioned out from their salary. Then, there is an existing mutual benefit between goverments and individuals; during people’s working time, they have made many a contribution to the their enterprises, specifically, and the whole country in general. Thus, it is incumbent upon the governments to take the lead in facilitating those elders financially; otherwise they will not able to afford housing and other arising necessities such as healthcare, goods, and social contracts.
Moreover, elders hardly find a job at that age, even if they found one, it could be hard-pressed for them to prolong in their tasks, since the staple of their energy had been used in the course of their youth commitment.
On the flip side, there is a prevailing sentiment asserting that retirees should look after themselves. In certain respects, there are evident negative aspects that justify the doubts revolving around the aforementioned policy. For instance, with the financial supports, retirees may be too dependent on those benefactors which, in turn, results in a cascade effect that directly impacts the economy and societal benefits. Furthermore, the outweighed attention for retirees may tip the balance between them and the workers. As a consequence, current workers will have to give in more tax from their salary to ensure a country’s sustainability.
My viewpoint however aligns more closely with the former policy in that retirees should deserve pensions for their existence. Despite the existing concerns, I strongly maintain that, with a clear-cut approach and a harmonious balance, this will bring about net positive impacts in overall. Such concerted efforts from the government can be implemented into the framework: allocating the resources appropriately, apportioning the attention across the elements, and integrating a two-pronged approach into reality.
