Supporting the artists is a challenging issue. While some individuals believe that the government is responsible for allocating support to all artists, some critics argue that this assistance is a waste of money. In my view, I contend with the former notion and believe artists are an important part of the cultural basis of a country and the government should support them.

On the one hand, some people state that the allocation of funds to artists is a waste of a country’s capital as artists should be self-efficient and usually earn huge amounts of money. The government should invest in other critical sectors in a country. Moreover, they include a limited group of a country and do not have any significant financial benefit for the government. For example, poets who just write poetry do not provide any financial value for a country, they should support their lives by having another job.

On the other hand, proponents of government’s investment in art claim that artists promote cultural development. In other words, art is the cultural foundation of the nation, and paying attention to it increases the cultural level of a country which is extremely important. With government funding, artists have a chance to focus on their art and as a result, their creativity and innovation are fostered. It encourages the artists’ expression without worrying about their cost of living. The government should consider this investment as investing in cultural capital. For instance, South Korea invests substantially in its musicians so they can produce highlighted music that is popular around the world and convey their attitudes and beliefs through it.

In conclusion, there is an ongoing discussion about whether it is a good idea for the government to assist artists by financially supporting them to increase the level of its culture or its unnecessary as there are other important sectors to invest, I believe that by funding artists not only government can help the culture of the country but also artists can have more opportunities to produce better works.
