It is argued that wildlife parks are brutal and should be banned, while others believe that zoos exist for the protection of wild animals and can be practically for some research. In this essay, I will examine both views and provide my opinion.
On the one hand, there are two main reasons why the zoo should be shutted down. The first reason is that animals in zoos can exhibit signs of stress, boredom, and depression. As people confine animals to limited spaces, they are against their natural instincts and deprive them of the freedom to roam and explore. Hence, impound animals can experience many mental disorders like I mentioned before. Furthermore, in many zoos, animals are being mistreated as they are often provided with insufficient food and medical care, which has so far caused many animals in zoos to die because of starvation and diseases.
On the other hand, from my perspective, the advantage of this problem outweighs the other one due to the two main reasons. Firstly, zoos are helpful in providing a safe environment for endangered species that are threatened by habitat destruction, poaching, and other human activities. By housing animals in captivity, zoos can protect them from immediate threats and potentially save them from extinction. Secondly, zoos often participate in research and scientific studies that contribute to the understanding of animal behavior, reproduction, and conservation. Consequently, the knowledge gained through these efforts can help inform conservation strategies and support the preservation of endangered species. As a result, the government should expand more zoos to save endangered species.
In conclusion, while there are some disadvantages of keeping zoos, I am in the opinion that zoos are helpful due to the protection of endangered species and practically engage in research for the acknowledgment of animals.
