Many individuals believe that the extra curriculum activities such as music and art in primary education are as important as any other academic subject. I firmly agree with this opinion and my reasons are outlined in the below paragraphs.
One of the main reasons behind giving importance to extracurricular activities at the early stage of academics is that it opens up the interest in young minds and helps them identify who they are as an individuals person. It opens up a floodgate for creativities in the student’s life as such activities stimulate the brain in different ways, which other academic subjects can not. Such brain stimulation has shown the effect of increased coping mechanisms with stress and anxiety as well as higher academic performance. Numerous research studies have shown the comparison of adolescents who had participated in creative activities and the ones who had not in their early years of academia. The individuals who have learnt these extra hobbies have been found to be more successful in their later phase of life.
Exposure to such non-academic subjects can lead to student identifying their career well and early in their life. These subjects can help to find hidden talent in the children at the primary level, which might be impossible to find out if they are just burdened with the academic subjects. For example, Miley Cyrus found out about his meticulous singing voice while performing for the primary school’s annual day. If only her school had not supported the extracurricular activities, the world would have never heard her angle voice. Additionally, with getting involved in these subjects boosts the confidence among the youngster and prepare them better for the challenges they would face whether it is in school or in real life.
To conclude, with the reasons and arguments I have discussed above, I could not be more agree that music, art and drama in an adolescent’s academic career are just as important if not more than the academic subjects.
