In their university life, some students may consider learning about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. Other students may think that learning additional subjects is a waste of time; therefore, learning their main subjects for qualification should be their utmost priority. I think that learning additional subjects can lead some students to discover their unknown potentials and show them other routes in their career life.
In my view, learning other subjects is important for students to realize their interests, and knowing a bit here and there can be useful in their career. For example, an electrical engineering class can draw the attention of a mechanical engineering student, and the student could learn about another field; moreover, they could change their qualification. Another example is that the same student can take art classes and develop a new hobby. For that reason, students should be encouraged to learn other subjects so they can be more knowledgeable in their expertise and be more aware of their interests.
In other views, others claim that students should give all their time and attention to their main subjects and study for a qualification. I think that is a reasonable opinion. Some students might not have the time, attention, or interest for other subjects. Thus, in these limited conditions, paying attention to other subjects could result in the failure of their main subjects. After all, with those limited resources, even main subjects could be hard to deal with.
Taking everything into consideration, additional subjects can show students new perspectives or make them more capable in their field. However, students should evaluate their capabilities, successfully learn their main subjects, and then consider giving attention to additional subjects.
