Many students who are in universities are interested to learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects. While others think it is more significant to spend all their time studying for just one qualification. In my opinion, however, discovering other fields in university can be interesting, but it brings important drawbacks for students’ future.
Firstly, if students have this opportunity to learn about other subjects, it can come with several benefits for them. To begin with, students have the chance to look at the different phenomena from more than one dimension and point of view. This, in turn, contributes to having a wider perspective. As a result, they are able to solve their real-life problems easier and deal with hard situations with more self-confidence. Moreover, they can explore other topics, and consequently, they can change their major fields in order to build their future with another approach. For instance, when I was a student for a bachelor’s degree in the industrial engineering subject, I participated in a marketing course, which was so amazing for me. And after that class I decided to study business, which I am working on now, for my master’s degree.
In contrast, many alternatives in different subjects for students are associated with several disadvantages for them. When they don’t stick to their mandatory subjects, they cannot concentrate on them, and they are exposed to distractions. Because of it, they cannot pass their exam. Eventually, their studies need more semesters to be finished and take so much time. It can lead to a sense of disappointment and some mental health problems. Additionally, when they cannot learn their specialized lessons, they will face problems in the job market. Subsequently, they cannot gain a suitable job, and they definitively won’t have stable financial situations.
In conclusion, learning about other topics parallel with the main topic in university plays a role like a double-edged sword, which has both negative and positive aspects. Although it can help students to have a better understanding and find their favorite subjects, it brings some devastating effects on students’ future, such as mental problems or bad financial circumstances.
