Nowadays more and more teenagers are getting more familiar with the idea of meeting people online rathen than in person. There are studies being conducted that support this trend.

We are living in a technological era in which owning a devise such as mobile phones and computers have become a necessity, either it is for work or enjoying your free time. There is also online access to almost everyone regardless of the user’s location. Those facts made online communication the most preferred way of contacting and humans became addicted to its convenience. There are numerous sites and applications where someone can register and send messages, for example Instagram and Facebook.

Especially for teenagers, social media platforms became a significant part of their daily lives. In order to exist into a social media platform someone must create and an account providing personal information and a picture of themselves. In some cases the user may choose to give on purpose fake information in order to impress others and hide a weakness they may dislike. With this remote contact teenagers feel safer while meeting someone for the first time. Another reason why they prefer social media communication is that they have as much time as they want to think their reply and answer to a message. This benefit can help someone keep in touch while having an extremely busy life, thus giving the “most liked” answer is now possible.

On the other hand, this online dating rising trend may hide some dangers as well. In some cases teenagers skip the in person meeting, which is where you get to know the real characteristics and personality of your interlocutor. In order to encourage face to face meetings society must help teenagers feel more comfortable and love themselves, regardless everyone’s criticism. Having psychotherapy included inside school’s curriculum may enhance someone’s perspective about themselves in a way they do not have to hide behind a screen in order to communicate.

In conclusion, online socializing offers some benefits but we must never miss the chance for an old fashion face to face meeting, because this is the most authentic type of communicating.
