Nowadays, being aware of the news is essential and it affects people more than before. It may bring some positive consequences including that staying informed may contribute to individuals being better prepared for dangerous situations. However, I still believe that it causes misinformation and getting stressed
It is true that, these days there are many natural disasters including storm, flood and avalanche, and there are more organizations which study the forecast. They usually use social media to warn people about weather alerts. By following such alerts, individuals can better prepare for unexpected climate changes to reduce potential harm. Not only forecast but also other safety-based channels which warn individuals about some criminals especially hackers, as today the number of criminals and hackers is on the rise. Thus people should be ready for every situation like disasters or the attack of criminals by being aware of news. The reason why news influences people more compared to the past is that before there were not enough and functional technologies. Previously, they relied on newspapers, but now almost everyone has a smartphone in the world and they can use them to stay informed about the news.
On the other hand, I think in today’s modern world there are numerous websites on the internet, most of them are dedicated to news. Many internet users follow such sites to stay informed. However, there are several fake channels or sources on social media. In order to earn money, they post false content. Some gullible people follow fake channels and may misunderstand such content. As a result, some of them may also promote fake data they learned, and it may cause the spread of misinformation. By informing some negative news such as wars or some pandemics, the elderly get stressed, because they think about their safety.
To conclude, although reading news can contribute people to get prepared for some unexpected disasters or criminals, I think as a result of some fake websites and channels, people misunderstand about news and they may also promote them, and some people especially older generations get stressed.
