It is a common belief that the development of some translating tools might discourage students learning progress in several ways have led to the reduction of students’ motivation to learn languages. However, I partially agree with this point of view since students can benefit from language assistance tools in different ways and enhance their language proficiency significantly. This essay will elaborate on my viewpoint.
On the one hand,there are several reason explain why translating tools today discourage our learning process. Firstly, newly developed conveniences of those tools help learner understand new languages effectively. In addition to typing in the box to translate the passage, now to can take photos containing new words, and we can also enter the words by voice. Especially when students meet foreign friends, instead of trying to understand and answer with misunderstanding and hesitation, using a translating tools seems to be more effective. Moreover, learning a new language is a long and continuous process, it takes between 3 to 6 months to reach a immediate level, so translating tools make people think that there is no point in trying hard while there is a easier way to understand languages.
Although translating tools hold their superiority and bring benefits to students, there are various elements in children’s language learning that they can not affect. In detail, most students learn a language since they want to comprehend its core and absorb the culture, not simple to understand word by word.Consequently, hardly translating tools can reduce motivation of students if they have clear goals and keep pushing forwards. The attraction of a highly developed translating tool is undeniable but not too much that could make students fully rely on it.
In light of what has been discussed, I personally believe that modern translating tools can not discourage a student if he equips himself with decent targets and learning manners.
