It is often argued that the most effective way of handling poor motivation is to allow young people to choose which subjects they want to study from an early age. I agree with this statement and think there should be more freedom in learning.
Firstly, I believe that when students are allowed to choose the subjects they are interested in, they will be more motivated. Humans are usually motivated by intrinsic motivation. Passion and curiosity can drive deeper engagement, leading to better outcomes. For instance, if someone who is interested in writing forced to learn science, they might not have enough time to study their own interest. By allowing them to choose, they will be more motivated in the subject and be able to work more efficiently.
Secondly, students will stop resisting learning. They will begin to find joy in learning instead of finding it to be dreadful like it currently is. School is seen as something bad by almost every student because it isn’t entertaining. This results in students not wanting to engage with lectures. They want to have more time to do things that aren’t learning like playing games. This also cause the problem of rising game addiction. When they get to choose what they want, they will find learning more enjoyable.
In conclusion, letting students to choose what they want to do is important for them and society as a whole. Students will find more joy in lectures if they have more freedom in the direction of academics.
