In the era of globalization, English has become the predominant language due to the enhancement of tourism. In spite of the fact that domination of one language disables communication barriers between different nations, it may lead to a loss of cultural diversity.

A global language allows people to communicate effortlessly, fostering mutual understanding between various nations and therefore promoting cultural exchange and contributing to the economic conditions of countries. In today’s world, people can connect culturally through the ability to speak English. For instance, a common topic can be discussed in depth thanks to the ease of global communication. Therefore, it strengthens the interconnection between different cultures and contributes to the cultural exchange. In addition, with the rise of globalization since the 20th century, an unprecedented amount of international trade, tourism and business have been carried out due to the reducing language barriers. People are able to communicate effectively and accurately, promoting greater touristic places and opportunities for economic growth.

On the other hand, many feel that domination of one language poses a threat to minority languages. As language is a focal point of cultural identity, English can contribute to the loss of unique culture. People from around the world try to acquire a global language in order to get opportunities in jobs and education, and ascend the career ladder. While being an English speaker undoubtedly benefits individuals financially, it does not change the fact that many minority languages may face extinction. As a consequence, globalization of one language catalyzes the takeover of particular cultures and causes loss of cultural diversity.

In conclusion, even though some can be concerned with cultural erosion in the era of high prevalence of English, it paves the way for interconnection between different cultures and immeasurably benefits both industrial and economic development.
