There is a statement which say, the main goal of science should be addressed to elevate people’s quality of lives.I strongly agree with this statement, because people have faced a lot of complex problems that only can be tackled by experts. On top of that, since the majority of research funding comes from taxes, prioritizing citizens need is such an obligation.
Nowadays, people have faced so many problems, ranging from the agricultural sectors, climate changes, air pollution, health, and many others. These problems only can be handled by experts who spend the majority of their live by researching and knowledging in a particular subject. For example, a attemption to find drugs for cancer. As we know, cancer has caused so many death since the late of 20th century, but it cannot be cured, unless with surgery. However, surgery does not carry out the root of cancer, so surgeons might not automatically be free from cancer after doing surgey. For this reason, the role of science is extremely important in order to discover the drugs for cancer.
Another reason why the outcome of science should be aimed for community is they have paid the taxes. Taxes has contributed in large persentage to various science research, including in finding the cure for cancer. Therefore, it is reasonable to prioritize the community first as the main source of taxes.
In conlusion, aiming the outcome of science to public is extrenely important since public does not have any experience or skill or ever equippment to solve the problems they faced. on top of that, public has also contributed to fund the research.
