Scientific development should focus on improving an individual’s life. I agree with this statement because breakthroughs in a range of fields such as medicine have drastically improved human lifespan, whereas engineering has brought comfort to one’s life.
Firstly, with rapid progress in science, human life expectancy has significantly risen to a global average of the mid-seventies in just a century. The scientific community rigorously working on developing medicines, antibiotics, vaccines, and many such inventions has led to the betterment of public health. It sounds almost unbelievable that before, even a minor common cold used to claim hundreds of lives, but now it’s one tablet away from being cured, all because of the hard work of scientists. For instance, many famous personalities died from tuberculosis in their early thirties or forties in the past few hundred years, but now mortality has significantly reduced, almost to nil, because of scientific understanding of diseases and its treatment.
Secondly, a luxurious lifestyle in the 21st century was never available to even kings in the past, all thanks to engineering marvels. To travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers is now a matter of a couple of hours, compared to the months of hardship humans used to endure, and it’s getting better day by day. Millions of people commute in the comfortable back seats of their cars to their offices instead of walking miles in scorching heat or bumpy rides on horseback. Now, different car companies in the USA and China are working on self-driving science; the comfort of riding is just going to be more and more high-end.
In conclusion, scientific inventions should be aligned with upgrading human lives, as it brings both a long lifespan and a comfortable lifestyle.
