Band 6+: The negative development of excessive use of smartphones in children

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some children spend a long time each day on their mobile phones, and this is mostly due to engrossing entertainment and unlimited choices provided in their gadget. This can become distracting for minors and negatively affect their growth, who might benefit more from real-life stimulations.

Juveniles tend to enjoy spending time using smart phones because they provide limitless forms of entertainment, in which they have full control over. Some examples are games and video streaming services. Moreover, there are specific multi-media which are intended for the younger audience, such as cartoons, which can easily be accessed through streaming services for free, like YouTube, or paid ones, like Netflix.

While there is no harm in little digital entertainment for kids, there are downsides in spending too much time on mobile devices. Excessive use of smartphones might distract them from real-life activities. Children should be able to spend their time with their families and friends as well. However, this is not entirely the children’s fault, since the videos and games are highly addicting, and they might not fully understand this concept yet.

Watching videos relentlessly might lead children to become overstimulated. Consuming visual and audio content with no two ways interaction might hinder the children’s growth. Studies show that children who consume digital media excessively tend to have speech impediments. Though it might seem like an easy option to keep the children quiet, it is not the best to let them drown themselves with their gadgets.

Parents should play an important role in supervising their children’s screen time as well as limiting the access to be appropriate for the younger audience. In addition to spending more time with the family, children should be able to grow normally without being hindered by high consumption of digital entertainment using smartphones.

Many people suffer from traffic jams. Preference towards driving cars or riding bicycles are challenging among humans who live different cities. Even though some prefer riding bikes due to ecofriendliness, I still believe that driving cars is more convenient because of time effectiviness and capacity for heavy items. For some, riding bicycles, which is healthy […]

The majority of news being reported is bad news such as wars, famines, accidents and crime. Why do you think that is? Do you think the news should be a balance of both good and bad news?

Nowadays, it is often argued that most of the news reported by the media is negative, focusing on issues such as wars, crime, accidents and natural disasters. There are several reasons why this is the case, and I believe that news organisations should provide a better balance between positive and negative stories. One reason why […]

Many companies are now implementing a four-day workweek. Do the advantages of this new work structure outweigh the disadvantages?

Today, many parts of the world are introducing four-day workweeks for full-time workers instead of traditional five-day schedules. Although this shift might have some drawbacks, I still believe that its advantages are more significant. On the one hand, four-day workweeks can delay the completion of some tasks. Under a four-day workweek, employees have one fewer […]

Some people believe that teachers should focus mainly on teaching academic subjects, not to be responsible for teaching students important life skills. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There is a heated debate over whether academic institutions should place greater emphasis on teaching life than academic subjects. While I acknowledge the merits of both approaches, I personally believe that treating them as mutually exclusive would be overly simplistic, rather schools should harmonize them. Advocates of the importance of academic subjects cite various reasons […]

It is often argued that smartphone usage plays a significant role in modern society. In my opinion, the advantages of smartphones far outweigh their drawbacks, and this essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting a […]

Once students go to school, teachers have a greater influence on their intellectual and social development than parents. Do you agree or disagree with this belief? Write at least 250 words.

It is often believed that teachers have a greater influence on a child’s intellectual and social development than parents once they start school. While I agree that teachers greatly shape students’ academic skills, I also argue that parents still have a much bigger impact on their social and emotional growth. On the one hand, teachers […]
