Band 7+: The rise of online shopping has transformed the way many people purchase goods. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Online shopping has become more popular in recent times and has changed the buying behaviour of many people. While many people have embraced it for its advantages over traditional physical shopping, it is not without some downsides. Both sides are discussed in this essay.

Convenience is a major attraction for shoppers. The ability to view available items, select preferred ones into a virtual shopping cart, make payment for them, and get them delivered in a reasonable time, all from the comfort of anywhere, is the dream of most people. As a result, shopping time is drastically reduced, thereby giving shoppers more time to perform other day-to-day activities. Furthermore, online shopping effectively breaks geographical barrier as people can now buy things from locations other than where they are based without having to journey an inch.

Despite these advantages, some valid drawbacks do not help the argument for online shopping. It is still impractical to purchase certain types of items online, such as an unknown perfume brand. Where other sense organs beyond sight are required to make a buying decision, it is usually still preferable to physically visit a store and feel the options before making payment. Yet another demerit is the complete elimination of haggling, which is a common practice in the marketplace. The buyer has no chance to negotiate discounts besides whatever is already offered by the seller, and they must just accept the set price or go elsewhere to buy.

In conclusion, shopping online is becoming increasingly common for the benefits that it truly offers. Nonetheless, there are situations where it is not as suitable and the experience is not as tactile as in-store shopping.
